So many versions, so little time! We designed each Pert product to provide a specific hair benefit. Which just means we've made something especially for you!
Pert Plus Shampoo plus Light Conditioner (PURPLE): Hey, hair is the one place most people don't mind a little extra body! Pert Plus Extra Body provides a light level of conditioning while gently cleaning your hair. It's great for fine or oily hair.
Pert Plus Shampoo plus Medium Conditioner (GREEN): Oh, if only life were this simple! It's ideal for "normal" hair.
Pert Plus Shampoo plus Deep Conditioner (RED): To hair what a sprinkler is to brown grass on a hot summer day! Try this one if you have dry or damaged hair.
Pert Plus Dandruff Control Shampoo plus Conditioner (BLUE): Imagine a perfect world! You'd be able to clean and condition your hair while controlling the itching and flaking associated with dandruff-with only one bottle of shampoo in the shower. See for yourself!
Pert Plus Kids Bananaberri Shampoo plus Conditioner: You won't have to chase the kids around the house anymore before you wash their hair! Pert Plus Kids Bananaberri is a gentle shampoo and conditioner with a formula especially designed to: smell great, be tear-free, clean and condition tangle-prone hair, and leave hair manageable, soft and easy to comb.
• What do I use instead of the Pert Plus "Oily" version?
We didn't forget you! Lather, rinse, repeat with Pert Plus Shampoo Plus Light Conditioner for Fine or Oily Hair. It's specially formulated with just the right amount of cleaning and conditioning for oily or fine hair.
• Which versions of Pert Plus Shampoo plus Conditioner work on African-American hair?
Since African-Americans tend to have dry hair and need more conditioning, Pert Plus Shampoo Plus Deep Conditioner for Dry Hair is designed specifically for that purpose.
Permed or color-treated hair tends to be more prone to dryness and damage. The gentle conditioners in Pert actually help protect fragile hair and make it more manageable. Because all versions of Pert are designed to work across different hair types, including chemically-treated hair, we no longer need a Permed/Color-Treated version in the Pert lineup. Just choose the right Pert formula based on your hair needs—you can feel confident that it works great on your chemically-treated hair.
• How often can I shampoo with Pert Plus? How much should I use?
All Pert Plus Shampoo plus Conditioners are gentle enough to use everyday, of course! Use about a quarter size amount of shampoo on wet hair (or two dimes and a nickel will do!) massage the lather through your hair and rinse. Have a blast, wash again if you want!
Although lots of rich lather might make shampooing seem more effective and fun, the truth is you can get really clean hair with just a little lather. Scientists will tell you it's the cleansing ingredients in shampoos that actually remove the dirt and oil from your hair, not the lather. The sudsy stuff just happens to form when these ingredients are mixed with water and massaged through the hair. It‘s more important to make sure you‘re using the right shampoo plus conditioner for your hair type than it is to have lots of "suds."
• Will using Pert Plus Shampoo plus Conditioner give my hair all the conditioning it needs?
Pert Plus Shampoo plus Conditioner gives you just the right balance of shampoo and conditioner. Choose the version that matches your hair type for shiny, lively hair.
• What's the pH of your products? Are your products pH balanced?
Glad you asked! Here's some background. Judging a shampoo's harshness or mildness because of its pH is a modern misconception, yet many people consider choosing a shampoo for its low pH factor, rather than considering its main performance benefits.
"pH" is an abbreviation for the "potential hydrogen" of a liquid. It's the degree of acidity or alkalinity in a substance and is measured on a scale from 0, which is strongly acidic, to 14, which is very alkaline.
Most shampoos fall in the normal pH range of 4–9, close to the pH of natural substances like water, which is 7, and skin, which is 5–6.5. As long as a product's pH is similar to your hair's pH, there is little effect. Most hair has a pH of 4.5–5.5 (slightly acidic). Mild shampoos are typically those with a pH between 4.5 and 7 (neutral).
Now that your head's full of pH information, these are the pH levels for our products:
We typically use Ammonium Lauryl
Sulfate (ALS) and Ammonium Laureth Sulfate (ALES) as the cleaning and lathering agents in our
shampoos but Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) are also common
ingredients. We're not aware of any harmful effects associated with the use of ALS/ALES or
SLS/SLES in consumer products. These supposed safety concerns stem from some misquoted
research and have no scientific basis.
The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR), an outside panel of experts that reviews ingredient
safety for the entire cosmetic industry, evaluated the safety of SLS/SLES over 15 years ago.
Their assessment showed SLS/SLES is safe for use in cosmetic products. Its findings were
reported in the Journal of America College of Toxicology (volume 2, issue 5, 1983). The CIR
is a program of the Cosmetic Toiletry and Fragrance Association (CTFA), a US trade
association. For further information, you can contact CTFA at 202-331-1770 or visit their web
site at www.ctfa.org.
Pert Plus Shampoo plus Conditioners provide both conditioning for wet and dry hair without
sacrificing the clean feel that's important to you. As you lather, the conditioning
ingredients stay suspended, while the water-based cleansing system goes to work. As you
rinse, the wet conditioning ingredients work with water to provide the smooth yet clean feel
you'll experience with Pert. The excess wet conditioners rinse away the dry conditioners and kick
in later leaving hair smoother, easier to style and protected from the effects of styling and
drying.
