"pH" is an abbreviation for the "potential hydrogen" of a liquid. It's the degree of acidity or alkalinity in a substance and is measured on a scale from 0, which is strongly acidic, to 14, which is very alkaline.

Most shampoos fall in the normal pH range of 4-9, close to the pH of natural substances like water, which is 7, and skin, which is 5-6.5.
